Lave Radio

Postby Dayrth » Wed Feb 17, 2016 12:19 pm

Just been listening to yesterdays episode of Lave radio and they called for some love for the Alliance :D

This was amongst speculation on what season 2 episode 4 will bring. It was suggested that it may be ships, ranks Capital ships etc for the Alliance that may trigger a faction war.

It would be nice if the Alliance finally came in to it's own, but it would be nicer if that happened before the end of the year.

Maybe that's the secret 2.4 update... let's face it, the Unknown Artefact/Barnacle thing is slowly hotting up, which may perhaps lead to human space getting a bad case of Thargoids, which in turn would be the ideal trigger for Alliance upgrade.

Here's my speculation for how things may turn out:

Events throughout the year point to the imminent and inevitable return of the Thargoids, and we might even get a few rare, remote sightings of their ships. Fearing the worst, the Federation and the Empire immediately begin preparing for all out war, maybe even returning to their anti-alien co-operative stance by resurrecting INRA. Naturally the Alliance takes exception to this and keeps calling for calm and peace, asserting that the Thargoids wouldn't return to human space without good cause (that alone should make some people worry) and that they are not a threat as long as they're not provoked but that if they do start a war, humanity will almost certainly lose.

Unsurprisingly the Federation and Empire take no notice and issue some not-so-veiled threats against the Alliance, warning them to stay out of their way and suggesting that if they side with the Thargoids they won't hesitate to declare war against the Alliance.

This whole time Mahon refuses to take military action and continues to pursue the diplomatic option, but the Council of Admirals rails against this, pointing out that there is no way the Feds or the Imps will listen. As a precaution Mahon at least agrees to start production and deployment of Alliance capital ships and smaller vessels and set up an Alliance Defence Force Auxiliary for volunteer combat pilots. Eventually, the Alliance divides into two major factions - those who follow Mahon and wish to protect their Thargoid allies by remaining peaceful, neutral and cooperative, and those who follow a member of the Council of Admirals and wish to protect their Thargoid allies by taking military action where needed or at least be seen to be a force to be reckoned with.

... and then the Thargoids don't turn up, but something else totally unexpected happens.

Maybe another alien race that it turns out the Federation are in league with plotting the downfall of the Empire. The Alliance factions then have to decide if they should split with the Federation and side with the empire to combat a greater threat to human kind.
